Fostering At Woodfield

How fostering at the Sanctuary Helps;

By fostering, your donation is helping towards our most essential costs and enables us to continue providing expert levels of care to ponies in need.

As an animal welfare charity, our costs are high as we care for around 75 horses and ponies at The Sanctuary. Many of our horses and ponies are found underweight, traumatised and vulnerable.

Volunteers work hard every day to rehabilitate each horse and provide them with the care they need. This might include additional visits and check-ups from our vet, extra supplements and nutritional feed, and costly surgeries. Rehabilitation journeys may take much longer for a rescue pony, but we will always be there to provide them with a sanctuary for life.

By Fostering at the Sanctuary, you can take part providing ongoing care for your chosen pony. Visiting and grooming your pony will provide you with direct contact and build a relationship with your pony, helping us make sure that equines in need have a safe and loving home for life.

Fostering at the Sanctuary is perfect for those who would love to spend time with a horse or pony but do not have the space or time to dedicate to owning a horse.

Meet Snowie

Snowie is a mature Shetland pony who is easy to handle and loves to be groomed. He will make an ideal pony for a small lightweight child under 7years old who is just starting to learn about ponies and hopes to own their own.

Snowie has been backed, so whoever fosters him will be able to ride him when they visit.

Snowie is very patient and is not nibbly like other Shetland ponies.

Snowie is a small Shetland and is very calm and easy to handle.

Meet John

a resident of Woodfield for some years, very sadly he had been in a serious road accident, on a local common.

Although an exceptionally beautiful colt, no one would give John a chance after being hit by a car, so we decided to step in to give John a home for life.

With corrective farriery and rehabilitation, he became well enough to walk again, and now spends most of his time leaping and bucking round the field with his friends here at Woodfield.

John is without doubt the pony who captures your heart, an absolutely stunning looking pony with a very gentle kind nature, who is happy to stand for hours being groomed by Children of all ages!

When we have nervous, unhandled ponies in, it is John who wins them round, giving them the confidence, to trust humans.

He is Beautiful inside and out!

Meet Smithy and Derby

Our two very elderly Gentleman Smithy and Derby.
Both have worked all their lives in a Trekking Centre, and are believed to be in their late 40’s .

They have to keep eating their special build up Mash day and night, to keep the weight on but they both still have lots of energy
