Leaving a gift to Woodfield Animal Sanctuary

Woodfield Animal Sanctuary began not as a grand plan, but as an act of compassion.

What started in 2013 as a small retirement smallholding, created by our founder Robbie, quietly grew into something far bigger than anyone ever imagined. One animal became two. Two became many. And before long, Woodfield had become a place of refuge for horses, ponies and other animals who had nowhere else to go.

Today, Woodfield is home to dozens of rescued animals — many of them young when they arrive, many of them deeply traumatised, and many of them needing care, safety and understanding for the rest of their lives.

Some of our residents may live for 30–40 years.
That is the commitment we make when they arrive here.

Leaving a legacy gift to Woodfield is a way to ensure that commitment can always be honoured.

Why making a Will matters

Most of us don’t like to think about writing a Will — but doing so is one of the most thoughtful and practical acts you can make.

A Will allows you to:

Many supporters tell us they give to Woodfield because they believe in second chances, dignity, and lifelong care. A legacy gift ensures those values live on — long into the future.

Questions worth thinking about

When people consider leaving a legacy, they often start by asking themselves a few simple questions:

There is no right or wrong answer — only what feels right for you.

What can be included in a Will?

Your Will can cover far more than finances alone. Many people choose to include:

Importantly, if you care for animals — whether at home or through Woodfield — clear instructions can help ensure their welfare is protected.

Leaving a legacy to Woodfield

There are several ways a legacy gift can be left:

A Pecuniary Legacy
A fixed sum of money.

A Residuary Legacy
A percentage of your estate after other gifts and expenses are settled.
This is often the most flexible option and allows your gift to grow with time.

A Gift in Kind
Such as land, property, or assets.

Legacy gifts to charities are exempt from inheritance tax, meaning the full value of your gift goes directly towards caring for animals in need.

Caring beyond a lifetime

One of Woodfield’s defining principles is that welfare does not end with rescue.

Many of the animals who arrive here are:

A legacy gift helps ensure:

This is not short-term rescue.
This is a lifetime promise.

Robbie’s legacy

Woodfield exists because one person believed animals deserved better — even when it was difficult, expensive, or inconvenient.

Robbie’s vision was never about numbers, recognition or expansion.
It was about doing right by the animal in front of her.

By leaving a legacy gift to Woodfield, you help ensure that vision continues — protecting animals who cannot speak for themselves, just as Robbie intended.

What if I change my mind?

Many people worry that making a Will is final. It isn’t.

You can update your Will at any time by adding a simple amendment (called a codicil) or by writing a new Will. Your wishes can evolve as life changes — and your Will can change with them.

Making sure your gift reaches Woodfield

To ensure your gift reaches the intended organisation, it is essential that your Will includes our full legal name and Charity Registration Number (RCN).

This helps your solicitor or executor identify Woodfield Animal Sanctuary correctly and avoids any delay or confusion when your wishes are carried out.
